2009 Big East Tournament Tickets at SelectATicket.com - New Format to Include 16 Teams

Riverdale, NJ (PRWEB) February 10, 2008 -- SelectATicket.com is now offering Big East Tournament tickets (http://www.selectaticket.com/tickets/national/big-east-tournament.asp). This year the tournament has a new format. 2009 is the first year the Big East Tournament will include all 16 teams. In the past, only the top 12 teams were included.

The tournament, also called the Big East Championship has been played for 29 years. The games will be held at Madison Square Garden in New York City on March 10-14, 2009.

The winner will receive the Big East Conference's automatic bid to play in the 2009 NCAA Tournament. Of the remaining teams, a handful are expected to be selected by the NCAA committee to participate in the tournament but the only guaranteed spot goes to the conference champions.

In the Associated Press Top 25 poll for January 31, 2009, (http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/rankings), the Big East had four teams in the top 10. Those teams are Connecticut, Pittsburgh, Louisville & Marquette. Any of the four could win the championship but with all 16 teams playing there are bound to be upsets so the championship is up for grabs. Marquette has the best record in the Big East but Connecticut is ranked number two in the nation. The school with the most Big East Championships is the Georgetown Hoyas with seven wins.

Players to watch are:

* Sam Young of Pittsburgh -- Young was the 2008 Big East Tournament MVP after scoring 80 points in the tournament

* A.J. Price, Jeff Adrien and Jerome Dyson of Connecticut -- Price and Adrien made the All Big East 1st Team last season and Dyson is a junior who has exceeded 1,000 career points

* Jerel McNeal and Wesley Matthews both of Marquette, both averaging 19 points per game or better.

Here's how it works: the teams finishing nine through 16 in the regular season standings plays the first round games, while teams five through eight will receive a bye to the second round. The top four teams during the regular season will receive a bye to the quarterfinals. It's a single-elimination tournament, so if a team loses, they're out. It's one of college basketball's biggest annual events and SelectATicket.com has been in the business for over 30 years.

"SelectATicket has been selling Big East Tournament tickets since 1983. That's when the games started being held annually at Madison Square Garden and it has been there ever since. The fans really turn out and have a great time," said Tara Rau, Vice President of Acquisitions and Risk Management at SelectATicket.com.

"There's a mix of current college students and devoted alumni who come back year after year to root for their alma mater, it's really an electric atmosphere that you only find at Madison Square Garden. I think that is why the tournament is the longest running conference tournament at any one site in all of college basketball, the Garden comes alive," said Rau.

"If you've been to Madison Square Garden you know what I mean by that, it is a unique venue when the crowd really gets going. Great tickets are hard to come by but Select A Ticket has tickets to individual sessions and All Sessions Strips to see every game of the tournament," said Tara Rau, Vice President of Acquisitions and Risk Management at SelectATicket.com.

Don't miss seeing the defending Big East Champs the Pittsburgh Panthers try to defend their title and gain an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
